Yes! Without the possibility of evil existing, good would not be able to exist in the world. Although evil must have the potential to exist, it only actually exists as long we continue to perpetuate it. And since God is a free being, we would not truly be created in God’s image if we weren’t likewise free, having the ability to choose good or evil. Although evil is allowed to temporarily exist, God is patiently waiting for us to stop perpetuating it and instead to return to His very good way of love. He is doing His part by saving us by grace. Are we doing ours?

While I still love much of what Christianity teaches, most specifically the words of Jesus in the Gospels, I left it as a religion many years ago for Buddhism, which as a system of psychology and a philosophy (rather than as a dogmatic religion, which it is for some followers, especially those born into it), I was and still am attracted to largely because of the way it addresses this issue of suffering. I suggest that anyone who is troubled by the suffering of all beings check out the Buddhist view on this matter. You do not need to give up Christianity in any sense.
