Swords to Plowshares

Promoting a faith-based love for all creation.

Should promoting veganism be part of the gospel message?

“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).

Jesus prayed for the kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). As believers, we are his hands and feet (Romans 12:5; 1 Corinthians 12). Our job is to promote love for all creation (1 Corinthians 16:14) as stewards of the earth (Genesis 2:15) while also teaching others to do likewise (Matthew 18:19-20). We should be careful not to remove the call to stewardship from the gospel message (Matthew 24:45-7; Luke 12:42-44). We should instead be vessels (1 Corinthians 6:19) through which Jesus builds on the foundation he has already laid (John 14:12) to bring about the kingdom. To do this fully we must repent and do the first works (Revelation 2:5), the “very good” works that were instructed by God before sin entered the world (Genesis 1:30-31; Isaiah 11:6-9) to lure us away from these divine instructions (2 Peter 1:4), at which point God will restore the kingdom (2 Chronicles 7:14).
