Some say it had to do with hygiene, or to draw us away from animal consumption altogether. Others suggest it was a later invention retroactively injected into the story anachronistically to justify priestly bloodshed rituals in the temple period. Another is that it was God showing us which “pure” animals to emulate and which not to emulate. The Bible does not explicitly say the reason. Regardless of which view is the correct one, God never changes and His perfect will has always been the same from the beginning, and that is to eat fruit and vegetation and leave all animals off our plates–clean or unclean.
